December 3 update

Below is the letter we sent to the WGBH Board before its December 4th meeting:

I am writing to be sure the WGBH Board fully understands the Woods Hole Community's perspective on the potential sale of the Captain Davis House at 3 Water Street that currently houses WCAI radio. Toward that end, please consider the following:

  • The Community was completely unaware of the potential sale until after it was agreed upon.

  • Within one week, the Woods Hole Community raised enough to negotiate with the buyer. We feel this indicates a very strong community-wide commitment to keep WCAI at 3 Water Street.

  • Negotiations are now ongoing, behind a confidentiality agreement.

  • The Community has publicly committed to providing GBH with 5 years rent-free to stay in the building.

We strongly believe the Board, in its own financial interest, as well as in the spirit of community partnership that built WCAI, should pause to allow this process to be completed

and then discuss with Woods Hole Community representatives how to keep WCAI in its current home.
